- July 21st, 2010 - California creates Ed Roberts Day
- In honor of Ed Roberts, a Berkeley quadriplegic who began the disability rights movement
40 years ago, Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger signed a bill Monday creating Ed Roberts Day
in California, encouraging schools and other institutions to educate the public about the
disability-rights pioneer every year on his birthday, Jan. 23.

- July 20th, 2010 - Pacific ADA Center honored
- On July 20 the Oakland City Council passed a resolution celebrating the 20th anniversary of
ADA and honoring local disability services agencies and advocates for distinguished service
to the City and the disability community. One of the local agencies recognized was the
Pacific ADA Center. Read more
- July 19th, 2010 - ADA Anniversary Video
- On July 26th, 2010 it will be twenty years since the signing of the
Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). This captioned video from the ADA
National Network reviews how the ADA has impacted the lives of individuals
with disabilities.

- Sept. 23, 2009 - Commission Approves Proposed ADA Regulations For Public Comment
- The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) today approved a Notice of Proposed
Rulemaking (NPRM) revising its regulations to provide that an individual seeking protection under
the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) establish that he or she has a disability consistent
with the original, expansive intent of Congress when it enacted the ADA in 1990. The NPRM,
approved by 2-1 vote, carries a 60-day period for public comment.

- Sept. 16, 2009 - EEOC issue a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking
- The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) issued
a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM) revising the ADA employment provision of the ADA.
The NPRM is open for public comment for 60 days following its publication in the Federal Register
on September 23, 2009. The EEOC is requesting public comment on how best to regulate the newly
passed ADA Amendments Act (ADAAA) of 2008. The EEOC encourages the public to offer its views
and suggestions. The Commission has also issued a question and answer guide on the NPRM.

- The state Supreme Court took a broad view of California's disability law Thursday,
saying businesses that don't accommodate impaired customers are subject to damages of at
least $4,000 per violation even if they don't intend to discriminate.

- January 1st, 2009 - The ADA Amendments Act of 2008 Now Law
- On January 1, 2009 the ADA Amendment Act (ADAAA) went into effect. The ADAAA was supported
by more than 220 national organizations, including the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the American
Society of Employers, disability organizations, veterans' groups, church organizations,
and the National Association of Manufacturers. The bill passed the House on a vote of 402 to 17,
and unanimously passed the Senate. On September 25, 2008, President George W. Bush signed the
ADAAA into law. Read more
