The Department of Transportation Federal Highway Administration has released a report, Accessible Shared Streets: Notable Practices and Considerations for Accommodating Pedestrians with Vision Disabilities

The report introduces shared streets, where pedestrians, bicyclists, and motor vehicles mix in the same space, and explains how these spaces can be planned with people with visual disabilities in mind. The report includes overviews of legal accessibility requirements, use of different designs and tactile surfaces, planning for and lessons learned from shared streets projects, and a shared streets design toolbox.
