The U.S. Department of Justice is committed to ensuring full compliance with all federal laws regarding elections, including provisions that apply to methods of casting a ballot. The Department's document, Guidance Concerning Federal Statutes Affecting Methods of Voting, provides guidance concerning federal voting rights laws effecting how citizens cast their ballots and federal laws governing voting by mail and absentee ballots and voting in person (including early voting).
