HHS secures agreement with University of California to ensure children with disabilities have equal access to early intervention program

Posted on December 12, 2024

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Office for Civil Rights announced an agreement with the Regents of the University of California about its University of California Los Angeles Intervention Program. It settles a complaint that the program violated federal disability rights laws (Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act, and Section 1557 of the Affordable Care Act) by stopping the participation of a toddler with developmental disabilities in the early intervention program. It also didn’t make reasonable modifications to its policies, practices, and procedures that would have allowed the toddler to participate.
