Higher thresholds for Section 503 and the Vietnam Era Veterans’ Readjustment Assistance Act (VEVRAA)

Posted on December 2, 2025

The Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs administers and enforces equal employment opportunity requirements that protect workers from discrimination. They apply to companies that have federal contracts or subcontracts above a certain dollar amount.  Recently, these dollar amounts increased and, as a result, reduced the number of contractors having to meet these requirements.

Under Section 503 of the Rehabilitation Act, a business with a federal contract greater than $20,000 must not discriminate against qualified individuals with disabilities in all employment practices and take affirmative action to employ and advance these individuals. The dollar threshold was previously $10,000.

Under VEVRAA,  a business with a federal contract of $200,000 or more must not discriminate against qualified individuals with protected veteran status in all employment practices and take affirmative action to employ and advance these individuals. The threshold was previously $100,000.
