Recommendations on Removing Barriers for Voters With Disabilities
April 6, 2022
To help improve access to voting, the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) has finalized its publication that talks about barriers that limit people with disabilities from being able to vote privately and independently. It identifies about two dozen barriers, ranging from limitations of current voting technology to lack of good training for poll workers about the needs of voters with disabilities. It also includes solutions for dealing with these problems.
The publication, "Promoting Access to Voting: Recommendations for Addressing Barriers to Private and Independent Voting for People with Disabilities", is NIST’s response to the March 7, 2021, Executive Order on Promoting Access to Voting.
