Discussion on Equity for Workers with Gaps in Employment History

April 14, 2022

The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) Chair Charlotte A. Burrows and the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs Director Jenny R. Yang will host a livestream discussion on challenges workers face when returning to the workforce after periods of unemployment.

Many employers are looking for ways to recruit and hire from new and different talent sources, but often don't hire applicants with gaps in their employment history. This screens out otherwise qualified individuals from  underrepresented groups, including caregivers, older workers wanting to get back into the workforce, people with long-term disabilities, and individuals who were incarcerated. The speakers will talk about the problems individuals with gaps in employment history face when looking for good jobs, the strengths these workers offer to employers, and promising practices employers can use to attract this talent.

The discussion will take place on April 28, 2022 from 1:30 – 3:00 p.m. EDT.
