EARN: Disability-Inclusive COVID-19 Workplace Health and Safety Plans

The Employer Assistance and Resource Network on Disability Inclusion (EARN) put out a new document titled Disability-Inclusive COVID-19 Workplace Health and Safety Plans. This document lists what disability-inclusive COVID-19 health and safety plans for reopening workplaces should include.

A “disability-inclusive” plan takes into account disability and civil rights laws and regulations, including the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and federal and state public health and safety policies and practices.

This EARN document discusses information including:

  • What a regular COVID-19 health and safety plan covers,
  • The importance of protecting against discrimination on the basis of disability and retaliation, protecting workers at higher risk of serious illness, and making sure medical information is kept private, and
  • Examples of how the ADA (and the reasonable accommodation provision) applies to situations.
