Funding for California's Disability Access and Education Revolving Fund Continues

October 28, 2022

California's Disability Access and Education Revolving Fund is used to increase disability access and compliance with construction-related accessibility requirements as well as develop educational resources for businesses to help them comply with federal and state disability laws. Also, the State Architect runs a program to certify individuals to become a certified access specialist (CASp).

Previously, the law required that from January 1, 2018 - December 31, 2023 any applicant for an original or renewal of a local business license or permit had to pay an additional $4 fee into a fund to help with disability access programs and activities, including the CASp program. Beginning on January 1, 2024, the fee was going to be reduced to $1. With the recent approval of the Governor, the amount will remain at $4.
