Lemoore School District agrees to monitoring and training after disability discrimination investigation

Posted on August 28, 2025

The California Civil Rights Department (CRD) reached a settlement with the Lemoore Union Elementary School District in Kings County to deal with complaints that a district employee faced disability discrimination in the workplace. The district will pay a little over $90,000 to the employee, and the state will monitor to make sure future disability complaints are handled correctly.

The worker said they were reprimanded in a performance review by their supervisor and eventually let go after sharing that they would need time off to get treatment for a disability. Their job evaluations did not mention performance issues until after making the request for time off. The employee alleged that their contract was not renewed in retaliation for requesting leave and as a result of the district’s failure to accommodate the employee’s disability.
