U.S. Conference of Mayors Workforce Development Council
January 31, 2020
The U.S. Conference of Mayors Workforce Development Council (WDC) hosted a panel on building a disability-inclusive workforce during its annual winter meeting in Washington, D.C. Moderated by the WDC-led Disability Employment Working Group Chair Pamela Nabors, the panel included remarks from Michael Gritton and Mary Rosenthal of KentuckianaWorks, as well as Dutton Farm CEO Jenny Brown. The panelists discussed best practices and effective policies in hiring, recruiting, and retaining employees with disabilities, and brought attention to the 30th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act. The Disability Employment Working Group is a collaboration between the State Exchange on Employment & Disability (SEED) and the WDC to assist local policymakers and workforce development professionals in addressing employment barriers for people with disabilities. The WDC is examining barriers to employment at the municipal level and developing a best practices reference guide, which will be released later this year.
