Storm season safety considerations for people with access and functional needs

Posted on February 26, 2025

The California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services (Cal OES) has a new fact sheet, Storm Season Safety: Considerations for People with Access and Functional Needs. It talks about what tools and resources people with access and functional needs (AFN)  should have to help them stay safe this winter. Individuals with AFN include people with disabilities, older adults, children, and those with limited English proficiency or poor access to transportation.

The fact sheet covers:

  • How to sign up for alerts and notifications,
  • What to have ready if an evacuation is ordered,
  • What to do if a shelter-in-place is required,
  • What to do in case of a power outage,
  • How to use support networks, and
  • Helpful resources.
