Event description

The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) was signed into law on July 26,1990 by President George H.W. Bush. The ADA is a civil rights law that prohibits discrimination against individuals with disabilities in many areas of public life, including jobs, schools, transportation, and many public and private places that are open to the general public. The purpose of the law is to make sure that people with disabilities have the same rights and opportunities as everyone else. It guarantees equal opportunity for individuals with disabilities in public accommodations, employment, transportation, state and local government services, and telecommunications.

This exhibit showcases works by artists from Cedars and Marin Ventures, two Marin County organizations that serve individuals with disabilities.

Cedars

Cedars Fine Art Studios provides a creative workspace, art instruction, and professional mentorship for individual artists seeking to increase self-expression and build their careers as working artists.

Artists in the Cedars Fine Art Studios are encouraged to explore art creation through various media to produce pencil sketches, abstract paintings, portraits, jewelry, sculpture, and more.

Marin Ventures

In 1990, a dedicated group of parents came together to create Marin Ventures—a safe and welcoming place where their adult children with developmental disabilities could learn, grow, and experience a multitude of positive experiences that integrate them into the community.

Their mission is to foster independence and personal growth, and to promote the opportunity for community integration. They provide creative arts, computer and communication instruction, health and fitness activities, and independent living and employment skills training.
