HHS Section 504 Notice of Proposed Rulemaking

NovNovember 2 2023

11:30am - 12:30pm

On September 14, 2023, a group in the U.S. government called the Office for Civil Rights (OCR) put forward a set of new rules. These rules are part of a law called Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, and they’re meant to make sure people with disabilities are treated fairly. These rules apply to anyone who gets money from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).

The new rules talk about many things, like how people with disabilities should be treated in hospitals, how kids in foster care should be taken care of, and how websites and other tech stuff should be easy for everyone to use. They also cover things like making sure medical tools are accessible for people with disabilities and making sure everyone can be part of the community.

Section 504 and the Americans with Disabilities Act both protect important rights for people with disabilities, and this webinar will talk about some updates in the proposed 504 rule to make it consistent with the current ADA rules.

If you have thoughts or opinions about these rules, you can tell the government what you think. You have until November 13, 2023, to share your comments. In this presentation, the OCR will explain some important parts of these new rules and show you how to give your input.

Registration closes November 2
